CPPSEC 3115 Carry, operate & maintain revolvers for security purposes

This unit forms part of the licensing requirements for people engaged in security operations in NSW where these are regulated activities.
In order to work as an armed security guard you must hold a 1F Security Licence issued under the Security Industry Act 1997 to allow you to carry out prescribed activities as a security guard.
To attain a firearms licence to work as an armed security guard you can apply online via the NSW Police Force Community Portal

It includes:
- reviewing and complying with range rules and procedures, workplace policies and legal rights and responsibilities including firearms and weapons Acts and workplace health and safety (WHS)
- selecting and checking the revolver, ammunition, duty gear and required personal protective equipment (PPE), and following manufacturers’ specifications to ensure correct and safe operation
- operating a revolver demonstrating correct techniques for loading and unloading, draw and recovery, retention, shooting and discharging multiple shots at the same target and multiple targets to the required standard of accuracy
- discharging a revolver at an approved range following local range rules and instructions from range personnel
- cleaning and maintaining revolvers following point, remove, observe, verify and examine (PROVE) safety procedures.

Entry requirementsWe require all candidates to hold a current Class 1F NSW Security Licence as well as Current Category H NSW Firearms Licence, which must be produced upon enrolment. This course is designed to align with the NSW Police requirement for all Current Security Officers with a Category H Security Licence to complete annual accreditation in one or a combination of the following:

DetailsThe course duration is 6 hours.
Assessment is a combination of practical demonstrations and techniques involving a Revolver as well as a written theory test. If needed, this unit is trained and assessed with CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate & maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes. $300 per student payable at enrolment. |
What to bring on the dayUSI Number
Current Security Class 1F Licence and Category H NSW Firearms Licence. Students must present in neat, clean and tidy clothing with closed shoes. Attention must be maintained to personal hygiene, especially throughout the practical components. Please note that enclosed footwear is essential. |
