Security Officers can obtain a permit from the Commissioner of the NSW Police to carry a baton whilst on duty. In order to be granted a permit the Security Officer must provide evidence of the need to carry the baton, as well as evidence of Training to carry and use a baton. A security guard holding a class 1A, 1D, or 1F licence issued for patrolling, protecting, watching or guarding any property by physical means or by electronic means including but not limited to, in any one or more of the following circumstances:

- following correct procedures for drawing and holding batons and adopting stance and tactical positioning
- using negotiation techniques to defuse conflict, and direct and restrain a person
- using a baton to apply defensive strikes to target areas of the body, and avoiding vital areas and monitoring the wellbeing of the subject
- reviewing and evaluating the effectiveness of the response to identify improved practices.

Assessment is a combination of practical demonstrations and techniques involving Batons and Handcuffs and a written theory test. This unit is trained and assessed with CPPSEC3111 Restrain persons using handcuffs. $300 per student payable at enrolment. |
What to bring on the dayUSI Number
Current Security Class 1A Licence (at minimum) Students must present in neat, clean and tidy clothing with closed shoes. Attention must be maintained to personal hygiene, especially throughout the practical components. Please note that enclosed footwear is essential. |
